The focal point of this quarter's Writing 39C course is Animal Science. This complex topic contains multiple articles that discuss severe animal issues and illustrate a variety of animal experiments. As a result, our work forces connections to made to the real world and personal ethics to be put to the test. Overall, the goal of this course is to conduct research and advocate for animal rights due to their emotional, intelligent, or communicative abilities.
Learning Objective and Description
Cognitive Intelligence
Dogs are proven to naturally demonstrate cognitive intelligence using their olfactory signals. Therefore, they are able to distinguish themselves from the world.

Social Intelligence
Dogs are able to socially comprehend the complexities of human communication and thus act based on the gestures given. This indicates that dogs are socially intelligent.

Emotional Intelligence
Domestic dogs live in close proximity with humans and therefore are capable of expressing empathy towards them. This has caused dogs to gain the ability to show affection by yawing, thus proving they are emotionally intelligent.

Dog Euthanasia
Dog euthanasia is a huge problem that frequently occurs in shelters. The reason for this is because it cruelly strips away life from a healthy dog. This inhumane form of killing is positively correlated with dog overpopulation, indicating that as the number of dogs increases, the number of dogs murdered by humans also increases
Ending Dog Euthanasia
Dog euthanasia can end once more affordable spay and neuter programs are implemented, dog sellers who do not work for a pound or shelter are taxed, and laws to ban euthanasia are enforced. Simply, raising awareness for abandoned and mistreated dogs on a variety of social media platforms can also help in this endeavor.
